Brain Fog With Fibromyalgia
One of the more common complaints patients have with fibromyalgia is impaired cognitive function, AKA “fibro fog”. There are several theories as to the cause of fibro fog. Two of the more common ideas are that it is the result of poor tissue oxygenation or is the result of neural inflammation. Poor tissue oxygenation is associated with a number of the issues found in fibromyalgia. Dr. Majid Ali M.D. states that all fibromyalgia symptoms can be traced back to poor oxygenation. One thing I have all of my fibro patients do is exercise with oxygen therapy (EWOT). This is simply having the individual perform a tolerable level of exercise while utilizing enhanced oxygen via a concentrator. If a person cannot perform even minimal exercise without causing aggravation to their complaints (and this is often the case when they first start treating) then we will have them use vibration platforms or tables while on the O2. Typically we will see they are able to tolerate more activity after a few sessions. Low grade inflammation is present in just about any chronic condition you can name, fibromyalgia included. It causes a large number of problems, both short term, such as fibro fog, and long term, such as joint and vascular damage. There are a number of things that can be done to help decrease inflammation. I recommend omega 3 fatty acids, and curcumin for helping reduce systemic inflammation. Additionally there are two products from Apex Energetics that are specifically designed to help with the neurological aspect of inflammation and oxygenation. One is called NeuroFlam and, as the name indicates, it is designed to help reduce inflammation in neurological tissues. The other is called NeuroO2 and is designed to help increase the oxygen saturation. I have seen very impressive improvements in “fibro fog” and in general well being in patients using these two products.
